SUCCESSFUL LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY AT JAN SEVA HOSPITAL HEALS RARE GALLBLADDER-DUODENUM FISTULA

Doctors at Dr. S.S. Tantia Medical College Hospital and Research Centre (Jan Seva Hospital) successfully treated a young woman suffering from a rare condition in which a hole had formed between her gallbladder and duodenum (small intestine).

The gallbladder had also become stuck to the duodenum, making her condition critical. Using laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery, the hospital’s general surgery team closed the hole and carefully separated the two organs. The patient, who was admitted with severe abdominal pain due to gallstones, recovered well after the operation.

According to Assistant Professor Dr. Neeraj Jangid, the condition—known medically as cholecystoduodenal fistula—usually develops from long-term gallstone disease. Although such surgeries often require large incisions, the team successfully performed the procedure with a minimal incision, ensuring a safer and faster recovery.
